Please be advised that starting May 31, 2023, at 11:30 PM-9 AM June 1, 2023, the Village will be flushing ALL low-service hydrants... This will NOT affect 9W North, Western Ave, Maple Crest, PARTS of Dempster Street, and McCulloch Ave! ALL other streets, avenues, and extensions may become affected!
If you experience discolored water, please run faucets at 15-minute increments until the water is clear, and we do NOT recommend washing laundry during these times.
Dear Resident,
In the last two (2) water/sewer utility billings we asked residents for help compiling a digital mapping of our water system connections, using photos of the water connection(s) inside Village properties. This request was due to the US Environmental Protection Agency recently making revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule for local drinking water sources. Within these revisions is the requirement for all water providers to develop an inventory of all service lines in their systems to identify potential sampling locations and to better communicate with residents and property owners that are or may be served by lead service lines to inform them of the actions they may need to take to reduce their risks.
**What are "Service lines" you may be wondering? Service Lines are the small water lines that run from the mainline into your home.
Within the next few weeks Village DPW crew members will be going door to door to assist in taking photos. All employees will have a photo badge stating their name, department, and phone number to the Village Clerk’s office (518-756-8233).
If you wish to make an appointment for a DPW crew member to assist in this matter, please contact us at 518-756-8233, M-F, 8:30 AM-4:00 PM. If you prefer to take this photo yourself, please send your photo to ravlinecheck@gmail.com. This email is maintained and monitored by the Village.
In the meantime, if you are concerned about the potential for lead in your drinking water, here are some steps you can take to minimize your risk of exposure:
*THE VAST MAJORITY OF PROPERTIES IN THE VILLAGE OF RAVENA WATER DISTRICT DO NOT HAVE LEAD LINES*
1) Use only cold water for drinking, cooking, and preparing baby formula. Hot water dissolves lead more quickly.
2) Flush your pipes anytime water has been unused for more than 4-6 hours. Lead levels are highest when the water has been sitting in pipes. Run your cold water for 3-5 minutes to ensure complete flushing. *DISCOLORATION OF WATER IS NOT AN INDICATOR OF LEAD*
3) Routinely clean faucet screens which can accumulate lead and rust particles.
4) Use a water filter that is certified NSF 53 to remove lead.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation.
